Live At The Shrine DVD
Live At The Shrine is an unprecedented collection by the Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti, including both a concert film/DVD documentary and a live concert CD. This singularly conveys the glory and life of Afrobeat music, which is an explosive mixture combining jazz, funk, and traditional African music. It also communicates the sound’s intriging roots and politics which began with Fela Kuti, Femi’s father, who is considered to be the creator of Afrobeat music.
Live At The Shrine is set in the Kuti family’s home town of Lagos at the Africa Shrine. Here, every Sunday, Femi plays to a full house of party goers. He uses music as his weapon of choice and the Africa Shrine temple of protest song. Femi continues with his father’s struggle, rising up against the corrupt government in Nigeria and strongly defending PanAfricanism. This experience is shown through interviews, street scenes, and the music itself. Live At The Shrine bottles the passion, spirit and hope of a person and a nation who are fighting on.
